This workshop is an introductory course for or clinicians on the insertion, care and maintenance of the Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC). The didactic component of this basic PICC workshop will address the terminology, advantages, disadvantages, indications, patient assessment and product selection, legal issues, and vascular anatomy and physiology review. The basic insertion technique will be emphasized specific to the type of introducer. The care and maintenance of the PICC will be discussed along with the potential complications and strategies for its intervention and prevention. The practical component allows the participants to practice the placement of a PICC using the basic insertion technique on an anatomical model under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
